Summer house on beach property

The family owns a beach property with a villa from the turn of the last century. The plot needed to be renovated and developed according to the needs of the large family. It was very important to retain and develop the archipelago character with cliffs, heather and pines. The beach and pier needed to be linked together, the entrance and walkways developed and made more inviting. The family wanted less lawn and more easy-care plantings with more flowers and edibles.

solution
The beach and jetty have been linked by changing the design of the existing jetty and adding a pergola and fireplace by the beach. The entrance has been made more inviting and the walkways have been widened and adapted to the needs of the family. To maintain the natural character, fine gravel and granite have been used for walkways and stairs. Existing nature has been supplemented with native plants such as heather, ferns, daisies and sedges. The lawn has been replaced by meadow plantings and native trees and shrubs create privacy and interest throughout the seasons. The predominantly wild green environment has been made more floral and varied and supplemented with some more traditional garden plants such as shrub roses that link architecture and the archipelago.
