the soul of the place
Every garden has something unique, a natural backbone for the landscape architecture to build on. For me, it's about the 'spirit of the place'. Maybe what you see as a problem is the uniqueness - a steep slope, a rock outcropping or a large twin birch. Incorporating the uniqueness into the garden design often becomes naturally beautiful.
garden magic
Sometimes it's hard to see the unique, for example in newly built areas, and then you may need to create it - perhaps a pergola completely hidden by a forest clematis or a winding path of stepping stones in a ground cover. The unique sets the tone for the entire garden design and when you manage to reinforce and build on it, real garden magic is created.

naturally beautiful
In my garden design, nature has a clear place and often the meeting between the landscaped and the wild creates a unique and beautiful combination. Preserving or recreating nature is not only beautiful, it also contributes to biological diversity which in turn makes the garden healthy and easy to maintain.
